Well what a week. I felt like my whole family was thrown into the 1800’s with no water or electricity. It all started on Wednesday at 7:00m AM. A water line down the road burst, causing the whole farm to be without water.
This is not a good thing when you have 300 head of cattle that need water, the robots need to wash and there is a Little Farmer in the house. The robots kept sending out alarms after each cow milked that there wasn’t any water, so our phones were ringing nonstop. The Farmer was on the phone most of the day trying to find if someone would haul out a bunch of water for the cows to drink. Around 2:00 he was starting to panic. Luckily the water turned on soon after that, so we didn’t have to get another source or water, but because the cows went awhile without water our production went down which in the long run hurts us. It was defiantly interesting how to figure out how to feed and clean the little farmer in the house with no running water. Let alone all the dishes that were piling up on the counter and the laundry that needed to be done. And of course Mama needed a shower, which wasn’t going to happen.
Then on Sunday the power went out. Right in the middle of cooking breakfast for The Farmer and Little Farmer. The Farmer had just come in from chores and was eagerly waiting for breakfast and Boom! No power. So he had to go and hook up the generator and check the robots to make sure they were still working. Well, about an hour later he noticed that the cows in the holding pen weren’t leaving. The exit gate for the robots weren’t working. Great. So he called the local service guy and was on the phone for about 2 hours trying to figure it out. When the power went out, it fried the electrical in the box and caused a whole lot of problems. But now the power is back on and the smart gate is fixed. Welcome back to the 21st century. Truth is, sometimes technology just sucks. But when it does work (after 3 hours of fixing it) we can let The Farmer take a nap. I’m sure the robot will be calling him soon to wake him up.
On top of all of that, there are snails in my garden. Eating away at all my hard work. Last year it was the dogs that were a problem, digging up my garden and nothing grew. And Little Farmer is working on his molars, drooling away and chewing on EVERYTHING he can get his little hands on. He, of course, doesn’t like to take naps and goes on a nursing strike when his little teeth are coming in. Poor little guy. I’m going to snuggle with the Little Farmer, but I hope this coming week is better than last!
