:In this world of social media and blogging there are a lot of different agricultural bloggers out there. I would like to introduce to you some amazing women I have had a chance to get to know. You might not think that an organic dairy farmer, conventional farmer and almond farmer have a lot in common, but you would be surprised. We may have different products on the shelves, but we all have one goal, to make great wholesome products for our customers and their families. I would like to introduce Nicole - Michigan Farm Girl and Jenny - Almond Girl Jenny
Hello spring! Its the first day of April and its pouring rain outside, not exactly what we were expecting. The Farmer and I have been busy spring cleaning on the farm. Just like spring cleaning your house, we deep clean around the farm.
Summer time is busy for everyone. On the farm we are busy in the fields trying to get feed ready for the winter. Doing this is important to make sure we have enough feed for all our animals. The Famer is out almost every day on the tractor either mowing, raking, baling, picking up the bales or cultivating. He works tirelessly from sun up to sun down, and usually comes home after Little Farmer is in bed, quietly eats his dinner and sleeps until he has to do it all again the next day. He provides for my family and yours.
Well what a week. I felt like my whole family was thrown into the 1800’s with no water or electricity. It all started on Wednesday at 7:00m AM. A water line down the road burst, causing the whole farm to be without water.
I have to be honest, when I was first asked if we were going to use cloth diapers when our son was born my first response was ‘Ew, no! Its gross to have to clean them out and wash them!’ I really shouldn’t have been so quick to judge.
In a world where there are a million other bloggers out there blogging about farm life, I want to start something that brought you into my life as a wife, mother and organic dairy farmer. I want to share with you my struggles and triumphs of living on an organic dairy farm. I feel as if there is a divide between conventional and organic dairy farming, and I want to explain what we do on our organic dairy farm. Since I now know both sides of conventional and organic, I want to share how we live on a day to day basis. More and more people have become so disconnected to where their food comes from that there is now a fear of food and agricultural products. We need to come together as an industry and set the story straight and share our lives. I grew up on a conventional dairy farm and went to college in Wisconsin, and graduated with a degree in Animal Science. I then married an organic dairy farmer and moved to his farm in Washington State. The simple fact is that dairy farming is in my blood. Generations before me have been dairy farming and I want this lifestyle for my family to grow up in. This is my story.
